While the need, and use of college entrance exams have been much debated over time, it’s important to understand what they are, where they fit, and how or if they affect your college options. In addition to the SAT/ACT structure, exam scoring, and use; resources for free test prep, as well as test optional info will be provided. Also interwoven through out each session are strategies to compartmentalize the role and significance these assessments play on college options; while managing anxiety, and maintaining self esteem. Learn how to narrow down the options to build a strong college list, that takes into account all the necessary variables. ‘Well-balanced’ and ‘Best-fit’ are dense college terms that imply a thorough understanding of how to wade through the sea of information that you will gather. If the best things in life are free, then what does that say about the rising cost of a college education? Learn the language, and get a jump on the to do’s and don’ts of financial aid. Also covered; the cost of college, federal and state applications, the CSS Profile, verification, eligibility, scholarships, the award letter, payment plans, appeals, loans and repayment. Whew! Students and parents completing this module will have a clear starting point, as we work our way down the rabbit hole of financial aid, and back out again.
